Safer care, first aid, Safeguarding children, managing challenging behaviour.
At Foster Cares Ltd, we’re committed to fostering both personal and professional growth among our carers. Fostering is a vital part of social care, and we’re dedicated to supporting our carers in honing their skills, whether it’s acquiring new expertise or enhancing existing ones.
Our training program is thorough, diverse, and comprehensive. It’s an opportunity for Foster Carers to access various resources, empowering them with the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
Mandatory training courses are required both before and after approval, and for couples applying, completion of all necessary training by both applicants is mandatory.
Understanding the demands of everyday life, our training is largely available online for easier access, allowing flexibility in your schedule.
Preparation Before Approval as a Carer
Before becoming an approved carer, you’ll attend a 2-day preparation course along with safeguarding and first aid training. Our allocated assessor will guide you through home study tasks, including case studies and discussions, preparing you for the fostering role. This process helps align expectations and addresses any queries you might have.
Post approval
Following your approval, you’ll undergo an induction before your first placement. This session delves into agency policies and procedures, further equipping you for your fostering journey.
During your initial year, you’ll undertake specific courses, which we’ll detail upon starting the assessment. Examples include managing unwanted behavior, safer care, risk assessment, child development, and mental health.
All foster carers are required to fulfil the Training and Development Standards (TDS) within their first year. These government-introduced standards aim to maintain uniform foster care quality across England. The TDS consists of seven standards, and your supervising social worker will guide and support you through meeting each one.
Personal Development Plan
Throughout your assessment, your assessor will create a comprehensive training plan tailored to your specific needs. This plan will be regularly reviewed with your Supervising Social Worker during supervision sessions and annually during your foster carer review. We prioritize your individual training and support requirements alongside mandatory training. For instance, if you’re facing specific challenges with a child in your care, we’ll aim to provide additional support or training relevant to that situation.
